Announcing our 1st Poet in Residence!
Patricia Foster has accepted our invitation to be SABLE’s first poet in residence at our new regular Sable Reading Series at our resident venue, All Nation’s Café in East London. We are really excited by the future developments and new projects we anticipate taking place with Patricia!
Patricia will appear regularly at our venue and liaise with organiser Michael Chilokoa on poets to invite to participate in the SABLE Reading Series. Encouraged by this, Patricia will also be developing new pieces, leading to a first published chapbook or collection – when we will of course hold a launch event for her!
A bit about Patricia – she is a Malika’s Poetry Kitchen founder member and an internationally published writer having been published in ‘Loose Muse Anthology of Women’s Writing’; ‘Red’; ‘A Storm Between Fingers’ and ‘Jupiter Magazine’ (Norway). A performer, actress, radio broadcaster, educator and creative coach, she has performed poetry and monologues for Apples and Snakes, Malika’s Poetry Kitchen and at many London and UK venues. She has featured as a special international guest poet in Kingston Jamaica, Oslo, Amsterdam and Antwerp, toured Europe and Chicago and featured on Sky TV as well as BBC, Jamaican and Dutch Radio. Her writing is described as “exquisitely sensitive”. Patricia has also worked in the theatre and toured with the women’s poetry/theatre collective ‘Thea-Poets’.
Following the grand success of the second SABLE Reading Event, in collaboration with Fringe St Lucia, the 3rd Sable event will centre round the theme ‘Travels and Journeys’.
Meet Patricia and other performers at our next SABLE READNG SERIES event on 18 September on the theme of TRAVEL AND JOURNEYS. Each featured reader will explore their relationship to the subject using, music, poetry, vocalisation and monologue. Expect a revealing encounter between reader and performer, presenting new material within intimate surroundings.
We will be welcoming Patricia and celebrating with Patricia as she appears on this date as our new poet in residence for the Sable Readers Series, so an emotional performance is in store.
Bro Niyi will also be appearing! He turned up to do a short spot at our second event -giving people a small taste of his fantastic hybrid mix of politics, spirituality and a Pan – African sensibility to his vibrant work and voice. Niyi delivers his spoken words to the beat of his own drum. So if you missed it on 12 June, come and enjoy the sounds of Niyi!
The events take place at the All Nations Café and Bar – Dalston and the evening will include an (optional) Caribbean meal !
Open Mic: 7-7.30pm
